In February, I wrote about racing the Moab Red Hot 15km trail race. Well, Mother Nature had another idea in mind, and a storm brought several inches of snow and abundant ice to the race course. The race was canceled. Landscape Arch New Plans We ended up going to Moab regardless, and having a great …

Patellar Osteoarthritis & a Cortisone Shot
I have been having pain in my right knee for a few months. For the past several years (or a decade?) my knee occasionally will ‘click’ when I run downhill when very fatigued, or on an occasional swim day when I am flutter kicking. The pain has been growing over the summer and fall, finally making it so painful to run downhill that I have had to stop running. I made an appointment to visit an orthopedist. A few xrays and a quick physical exam and history, and the diagnosis of patellar osteoarthritis was made.

Hiking Foot Care, or, I have Bony Feet
As I’ve been training for my Mt. Whitney hike, which will take place later this month, I’ve been doing a lot of hiking. One of the questions I get most often both from runners and hikers is how to prevent blisters. I have bony, narrow feet. In particular, one of the things that I need …

10 Years of Bun on the Run!
I wrote my first blog post here 10 years ago. I had qualified for the 2012 US Olympic Marathon Trials, was a newly signed Brooks athlete, and found out I was pregnant just over a month before the race. I was having a rough first trimester and was looking for running mother inspiration - check …
Summer
This summer, my running goals were to return to running consistently and to build mileage while paying attention to my running “pre-hab” & rehab exercises. As it turns out, plans shift and I’m now wearing a [very fashionable] splint shoe on my left foot, and haven’t run a step in 10 days. I have had …

Staying busy, staying sane (while not running!)
The weeks since my last post, where I talked about discovering I had a metatarsal stress fracture have flown by. I have not been running, but I have been cross training. I spent the first 3-4 weeks of injury diligently and vigorously cross training, and felt pretty awesome. However, I soon succumbed to what I …
